GSP Database Update
I am continuing to clean up the database I am currently down to about 1,500 records that need obvious corrections and I am continuing to improve the data at 100 records a day. Some questions I have been asked recently.
1. Other on-line systems allow me to add dogs automatically, how do I add them to yours and why not add them on-line?
A: Data accuracy, pedigrees are either submitted through the on-line form or sent directy by e-mail. if you have it in another format I can upload them automatically. Before most new records are added I review records for accuracy. Many of the automated systems on-line have a large number of inaccuracies. As an example a recent five generation pedigree had over 45 errors. All new records validated before entry.
2. How do you verify accuracy?
A: OFA records, AKC records, stud books, publications, and other public records. As an example, I was looking for a female so I searched the name on the Internet and was able to find a related pedigree. However the pedigree confirmed the name and sec it did not tell me the birth date or AKC registration number. In this case I searched the AKC data nd found the name this gave me the date of birth, regisration number and color.
3. How do I use the database?
A: In top right hand side of this page you will see a link GSP Pedigree Data Base. Click the link will take you to the Pedigree search page. There are five steps to searching for a pedigree.
- Select the number of generations “5” is the default the maximum you can select is “10”
- Enter the dogs “Official” name if you are not sure of the dogs name enter a partial name. Example to find all dogs with Bleugras anywhere in the name just enter Bleugras.
- Step 3 you can skip automatically selected.
- Step 4 you can skip automatically selected.
Click the search now button
- A list of dogs that match the search request will be displayed. Select the one you want and that pedigree will be displayed.
4. Is there anything else the data base can be used for?
A: Yes there are many additional features.
- Trial pedigrees
- Reverse Pedigrees
- Breeding Info (Shows siblings, Half Siblings and Gets grouped by litter number).
We hope you find this tool helpful and useful if you have pedigrees you would like added send me the pedigrees and I will add them to the website.

Brags & Congratulations!!
Congratulations to Alyson Manning (shown below right) and her lovely dog Brody, Endever’s Aly’s Choice Springruns. This picture is from Aly and Brody’s 1st weekend together at the Cedar Rapids show - and they won both days in her JR novice group! The other picture is the same weekend with Brody winning his major 1st on Sunday and taking reserve on Friday and Saturday (shown with Aly’s proud papa Jim). Aly did a wonderful job and presents very nicely in the ring. Congratulations!

German Shorthair Pointer (GSP) Pedigree Database Update
Some of you will notice we made significant updates recently in the data base. Currently there are 26,767 records in the database. I am currently working on data accuracy with 3,632 records under review; 2,666 of these are potential duplicate registration numbers due to the GD number being place in the Registration number, 951 similiar names to be investigated and 15 with potentially incorrect gender.
I expect by years end we will be over 30,000 GSP pedigrees, with all known data issues resolved. On average I am adding 100 a day and cleaning another 100 up most days. Once we have the new input cleaned up I will be back to record validations.
If you are a breeder and would like your line records available for display on your web site or simply posted here at http://www.gspdog.net send me your records using PedX or similiar breed software and export the records to a text, comma delimited format or if that is not an option you can export them to a Microsoft Excel csv format comma or space delimted. Email me ahead of time so I can set my e-mail to receive attachments from you. Use the e-mail address removing NOMORESPAM from the address.
For PedX 5.x users:
From the database view select Tools
Select Export CSV
A new window will open
Verifiy a check mark in Enclose fields in double qoutes during export
Check the box Export field headings
Verify the Only export marked records is not checked
Export / Import seperator there should be a comma if not put a comma there
Export file name browse to a directory on your pc to save the file please make the file name your kennel name.
Press the Select all fields button.
The Export button in the lower left should now be activated select it and bingo you have exported the data to a file.
Once the records have been validated and posted you can include the link on your site similiar to how I have done for Scout and Blade.
The on-line system supports up to 10 generations, reverse pedigrees, sibling reports, breeding reports and trial pedigrees. Scout and Blades pedigrees are now displayed back more than 70 generations.
Regards,
Jim
